Free support available to help families quit smoking this Stoptober!
Families in Worcestershire can access free support from experts to help them stop smoking.
Smoke Free Homes, provided by the Starting Well Partnership in collaboration with Worcestershire County Council is a dedicated service setup to help people living with children give up smoking. It’s open to mums, dads, carers, or anyone who lives with a child under the age of three in Worcestershire.
Recent public health data suggests the proportion of mothers locally who are known to be smokers at time of delivery is currently around 11.5%. Higher than the national average of 9.6%.
The service uses a range of approaches to support people while they quit, including free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), 1:1 support and family sessions with trained advisors.
Deb Lindsay, Starting Well Partnership Clinical Operational Manager said : “It’s fantastic to offer dedicated support to family members with young children who want to stop smoking. The effects of second-hand smoking on babies and children can be really serious and we hope this service helps many more homes become ‘smoke free’.
Stoptober is a great time to decide to quit smoking and join many others around the country. Stopping smoking brings immediate benefits to your health and those around you.”
Anyone living with children under the age of three in Worcestershire can sign up to the service and request support.
